ANAP Foundation says it foresees a tightly contested governorship race in Ekiti State going by recent survey conducted on its behalf by NOI Polls Limited.
The Foundation said the recent opinion poll indicated a tightly contested race between the top two contenders, the current governor of the state, Kayode Fayemi and Ayo Fayose, a former governor of the state, with just two percentage point gap between them.
A statement on the outcome of the poll signed by Atedo Peterside, president & founder, ANAP Foundation, noted that when asked who respondents would be voting for in the coming June 2014 governorship elections in Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose led the list of candidates with 31 percent, while Kayode Fayemi had 29 percent.
Bamidele Opeyemi, another contender for the governorship seat, trailed at a third position with 3 percent, while Kola Ajayi received no votes.
However, 37 percent of those polled were undecided as to their choice of candidate, and according to the polls result, it is believed this proportion of voters would be critical in deciding who eventually wins the coveted seat.
“A recent survey conducted for ANAP Foundation by NOIPolls Limited shows a tightly contested race for the Ekiti State governorship seat between the top two contenders, the current governor of the state, His Excellency, Kayode Fayemi and Ayo Fayose, with just a two percent point gap between the two”, the Foundation noted.
The survey results also show that youths between the ages of 18 and 29 years are more inclined to vote for Ayo Fayose, while the working class between the age groups of 30 and 45 and 46 and 60 are more inclined to vote for Kayode Fayemi.
