Talk to Buhari to free our leader, protesting Shiites in Lagos tell Tinubu

Tinubu to meet Obasanjo over presidential bid today

Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), otherwise called Shiites, on Thursday called on Bola Ahmed Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to talk to President Muhammadu Buhari to release their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

The Shiites besieged the popular traffic intersection in Maryland-Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way along the Ikorodu Road in Lagos protesting against the continued detention of El-Zakzaky, who has been in detention since 2015.

“Buhari got to the office because the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, assisted him. It was Tinubu that started the movement and spent his money to ensure that the party assumed power,” said the IMN’s South-west coordinator, Muftau Zakariya.

“So, we are calling on Tinubu to talk to the president, who is a member of his party, to free our leader. If he allows the president to continue to kill our members, there will not be Nigeria in 2023,” Zakariya said.

Protests by the group had been on in Abuja since Tuesday, leading to a clash with security operatives at the National Assembly. There were also protests by the Shiites in Abuja and Kaduna on Thursday.
