Group urges South-East Governors to fulfil campaign promises

Group urges South-East Governors to fulfil campaign promises
Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), a non-partisan organisation, has advised the four South-East Governors that took oath of office on May 29, 2019, not to renege in their campaign promises to their electorates.

The group in a statement signed by Goodluck Egwu Ibem, its president general, stated that reneging on their promises would amount to sacrilege.
They promised to set up a monitoring team to be known as “South-East Concerned Citizens Monitoring Team” in all higher institutions in the region to constantly remind politicians of their promises before they were elected into office.
They advised the governors of Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo to emulate past leaders like Nnamdi Azikiwe, Michael Okpara, Chukwuemeka Odimegwu-Ojukwu and Sam Mbakwe, in rendering selfless service to the people.
“We charge them to implement people-oriented programmes and policies in their states. We urge them to prioritise education, agriculture and industrialisation.
“We are watching them closely, we have copies of their campaign promises to the electorates, if they fail to fulfil them, we will sensitise the people to rise up to demand what is rightfully theirs.
“The era of some politicians engaging the services of intelligent speech writers to prepare beautiful manifestos, which they will not fulfil is over.”
The group promised to raise what it called, “South-East Concerned Citizens Monitoring Team” from all higher institutions in the region that would constantly remind politicians of their promises before they were elected.
“From their first 100 days in office, we shall start rating them according to their performances with video evidence of their projects.
“Any of them who knows that he’s not prepared and only cooked up his manifesto just to deceive electorates should quickly resign now, because, we will not spare any leader, who is underperforming when we start giving records of what they got and what they did with it.
“We shall apply constructive criticism and awaken the spirit of all sleeping and unconcerned South Easterners to begin to ask questions.

“We shall apply open rebuke henceforth to make some persons sit up. Any leader who is contributing to the underdevelopment of the South-East will be made to lose his or her political value and will forever remain politically irrelevant,” they stated.
