Pandemonium broke out Thursday along Awolowo Road in Ikeja, as hoodlums disrupted a political rally and press briefing held by the Orange Movement for a Free Lagos State at the Airport Hotel.

Commercial activities along Awolowo Road and adjoining streets were disrupted for hours as residents scampered for safety, while armed police men shoo into the air and fired tear-gas to scare away the hoodlums.

Some participants and journalists who attended the programme told BusinessDay, that some the hoodlums invaded the venue midway into the event and started harassing participants.

“We were midway into the event when we heard some noise outside the venue; some hoodlums attacked the venue and started harassing people.

“But the police men came and asked the organisers to stop the event as it was not safe. There was shooting and everybody was running, but some journalists and several participants are still held up inside the venue of the event.”

Sources said the movement that organised the event was sponsored by opposition parties in the state, while the event was attended by some activists and opposition politicians in Lagos State.
