Akpabio loses re-election bid

Former Senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost his re-election in the National Assembly polls held last Saturday.

According to the results announced by Peter Ikor Ogban, the returning officer for the senatorial district election, Akpabio scored 83,158 votes while Christopher Ekpenyong of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) had 118,215 votes.

Ogban said Ekpenyong having scored the highest number of votes has been declared winner having also satisfied the requirements of the law.

“Ekpenyong having satisfied the requirements of the law is declared the winner and hereby elected,” he said.

The result of the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial district was delayed for two days due due to allegations of insecurity in the senatorial district headquarters.

The result was announced in Uyo, the state capital.

Nsikak Ekong of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared winner for the Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara/Essien Udim federal constituency having garnered 29,849 while his opponent Emmanuel Udoh of the All Progressives Congress had 22 052 votes.
