Election: Disappointment as voting delayed in Taraba

voting-2

Voters in various polling units across Jalingo town in Taraba State have expressed disappointed with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over delays in the commencement of voting in the Presidential and National Assembly election.

At the Waziri Male polling unit under Turaki A ward, voting was yet to commence as at 9:45am and INEC officials only arrived at about 9:30.

Voters across Kona Ward were stranded as INEC officials and electoral materials were yet to reach the polling units, while voting only commenced at about 9:00 am at Muhammadu Nya polling unit.

At the Musa Makeri 005 polling unit under Majidadi ward, voting was yet to commence as at 10:15 am due to a mix up with the presidential ballot papers.

However, voting has commenced at the Lamode polling unit and other polling units in town.

The senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC for Taraba North Ahmed Yusuf, who spoke to our correspondent said he was “totally disappointed with INEC’s outing as it has fallen very short of expectations. If up to this time voting has not commenced in the state capital, then you can only imagine what is happening in the remote areas.”

Our correspondent reports a high voter turnout in all the polling units visited, especially women.
