China expresses confidence in Nigeria’s ability to conduct credible polls

Ahead of Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections, Chinese government on Thursday said it was confident that Nigeria has the capacity to conduct credible election

The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang stated this on Thursday while while fielding questions on Nigeria’s coming general elections at a regular press conference.

Shuang who also noted that China will continue to maintain its non- interference in the internal affairs of Nigeria, expressed confidence that the result of polls will reflect the aspirations of Nigerians

“China always stands for the principle of non-interference in other country’s internal affairs. We believe the Nigerian government and people are capable of managing the relevant election affairs.”

He said the Chinese government will continue to support Nigeria to manage its own internal affairs without any interference.

Speaking on the postponement of the polls last week and the reactions generated from the international community, Shuang said

“We have noted the relevant situation. The Chinese side hopes and believes that Nigeria’s presidential and parliamentary elections will be held successfully and smoothly.

“I would like to point out that Nigeria is an important country in Africa. Peace, stability and development of Nigeria serve the interests of the Nigerian people, the region and Africa at large.
