Delta state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on Wednesday promised the people of the state better days ahead if he is reelected for second term.
Okowa made this promise in Burutu, Burutu Local Government Area of the state during a PDP campaign rally ahead of the March 2, 2019 gubernatorial elections.
Okowa, who was received by a mammoth crowd at the riverine community, said though his administration had done a lot, there was still more to be done if reelected into office.
While commending Deltans for their peaceful disposition, which he said had enabled his administration to perform excellently well, Governor Okowa noted that the difficult days were over as the allocation coming to the state has improved.
He appealed to the people of the state to continue to maintain the peace in the state, saying that without peace no meaningful development can come to the state
The governor also promised the people of Burutu council area that he was going to construct all the internal roads network in the area since the area was the only area that is not accessible through land.
He urged them to arm themselves with their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) and cast their votes for all the PDP candidates from the national level to state level, stressing that it was only the PDP that can bring the needed development to the state.
Okowa said, “I want to thank Burutu people for standing by us. When it’s time to campaign we will come here and when it comes to work we will work. There are many more things we still want to do. I know Burutu has given us peace and that is why we are doing all the internal roads for you.
“There is a difference between a government and a government. You voted for us and we are going to do all the things we promised you. Though we have done a lot, there is still more to be done for the people of Burutu.
“In our second tenure we are going to do more for our youths because until we empower our youths, it will be hard for us to have peace and development.”
On the problem of electricity in the council area, Governor Okowa said his administration was already in talks with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) on how they could get gas to power the turbine that would be built.
“We are in partnership with NDDC and the SPDC to ensure that power comes to your area. We have sat down and discuss the amount of gas that will be supplied to you for the power plant. We are in that process please be patient,” Okowa said.
The Director General, Okowa Campaign Organization, Prof. Sam Oyovwaire, the Delta PDP Chairman, Barrister Kingsley Esiso, and others who spoke at the campaign ground, appealed to the people to vote for Okowa and other PDP candidates.
