Ahead of the World Cup qualifier between Nigeria Cameroon, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has declared special prayers for the Super Eagles.
The match is slated for September 1, 2017, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium (Nest of Champions), Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
Speaking when he received, Amaju Pinnick, President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) in his office in Uyo, Udom said the prayer session, which would also commemorate the State’s 30th anniversary would spur the Eagles to overcome the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
He said the prayers would help in confidence building for the Eagles to overcome their opponents and urged fans to be in the vanguard of the Nigeria’s victory by participating in the prayer session.
The governor, who reiterated the resolve of his administration to contribute in repositioning sports in the country and pledged to involve experts in rejigging the team during the training periods, adding that “both the training and the match proper will act as a morale booster to youths in Akwa Ibom.”
However, the NFF President said he was on a mission to Akwa Ibom to enlist the State supports in the area of logistics including transportation, accommodation as the State has been picked to host the Eagles in training and friendly games ahead of the big match.
Describing the Nest of Champions as “the best in Africa”, Pinnick said the gesture was for the people of the State and Nigeria to appreciate the efforts of the Super Eagles in football, assuring that the players were in top shape to deliver victory to football fans who were disappointed at the last game against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, in Uyo.
“The Super Eagles will not only qualify, but will also make impressive outing in the World Cup competition”, Pinnick assured.
