The Presidency has stepped down the two new nominees for the board of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) who are said to be under investigation.
This was announced by Media Aide to the Acting President, Laolu Akande on his twitter handle @akandeoj on Sunday.
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, had last week approved the appointment of a new board for the ICPC. Bolaji Owasanoye, was appointed to take over from Ekpo Nta as Chairman of the ICPC while Grace N. Chinda, Okolo Titus M, Obiora Igwedebia,
Olubukola Balogun, Sam Ewang, Adamu Bello, Hannatu Mohammed, Abdullahi Maikano Saidu, Sa’ad Alanamu, Yahaya Umar Dauda, Khamis Ahmed Mailantarki and Maimuna Aliyu were appointed as members of Commission.
Musa Usman Abubakar will serve as Secretary.
It was later discovered that Maimuna Aliyu and Sa’ad Alanamu, were being investigated by the same organization, the ICPC. This had generated controversies.
According to Akande who took to his twitter handle on Sunday to state the Federal Government’s position, “We are stepping down 2 of the new ICPC board nominees who have ongoing investigation issues with the commission as this presents a conflict.
“A basic check showed no court convictions against them. But when weighty petitions come up this administration ‘ll always do the right thing
“While existence of allegations or petitions against someone should’nt necessarily disqualify them from considerations for appointments…
“…this case presents a peculiarity as we have confirmed that the agency in which they are to serve is indeed investigating the two of them” he said.
