In line with the Federal Government policy of backward integration, Lafarge Africa Plc is gradually changing the business concept of the 2.5MMT plant, moving away from being a conventional supplier of Portland ordinary cement to include championing of cementations strategy, providing cement solutions to oil and gas sector of the economy, distribution of Lafarge Africa products in the markets are being a hub for the ready-mix operations in the South- South and South East.

Plant Manager of Mfamosing Peter Robsons disclosed this at Transcorp Hotels Calabar during an interactive forum with shareholders of Lafarge Africa PLC. He said the Mfamosing plant, a modern production facility was inaugurated in 2009. He further stated that it was originally established in 2002 after acquiring the asset of the moribund Calabar Cement Company (CalCembCO), a Greenfield cement manufacturing plant was constructed at Mfamosing.

According to Him, in 2012, the company expanded product portfolio and currently offers customers two cement products for general purpose and specialised applications. To meet the increasing demand for its products, an additional manufacturing line with a production capacity of 2.5MMT is currently being constructed. The project, upon completion will double the company’s production capacity to 5MMT per annum thereby consolidating its position as the leading cement company in Nigeria’s South-East and South-South regions.

Also he said, “our Southern Nigeria operation covers another cement terminal, Atlas Company Limited, commissioned for operation in 2001 in Rivers State within the Federal Ocean Terminal, Onne. The plant was operated on a floating vessel, which had a nominal capacity to produce 500,000MT per annum.

Earlier the Communication and Corporate, Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager, Bassey Inyang disclosed that 10 communities spread in three Local government areas of the state have benefited from the company since its inception in areas of sports, education, health roads and empowerment amounting to over N12billion.

He said the company has appointed liaison officers, Community Trustee Commission, signed an MoU and built sustainable relations with key stakeholders to enable the company have a good working relations with their host. He said the company is also partnering with the state government in areas of education, sports, health, and security among others.
