The Corporate Alliance on Malaria in Africa (CAMA) has urged all stakeholders in the Nigeria’s health sector to put an end to malaria epidemic in the country through intensified prevention and sensitisation mechanisms.

CAMA said in a statement to mark this year’s World Malaria Day with the theme ‘End Malaria for Good’ that a call to action for all partners including the private sector, government, donors civil societies and communities affected by malaria was very important.

To support the drive, CAMA brought together a group of business executives and corporate health managers, along with technical experts, government officials and program implementers, for a stakeholder meeting to be held at the Black Diamond Hotel, Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria Island, in Lagos.
The meeting will offered participants a forum to; mobilize business leaders to support collective action towards reducing malaria prevalence in Nigeria; and discuss malaria control best practices, new initiatives and identify opportunities to collaborate and scale-up malaria intervention.

Speakers at the event include Audu Bala Mohammed (National Coordinator of the National Malaria Elimination Programme of Nigeria) who will speak to the opportunities and challenges related to Nigeria’s malaria elimination agenda; Tolu Arowolo (NPO, Nigeria, World Health Organization) who will provide comments on WHO guidelines for malaria elimination and their relevance to Nigeria; Olajide Idris (Honorable Commissioner for Health, Lagos State); and Babatunde Ipaye (Honorable Commissioner for Health, Ogun State); as well as representatives from ExxonMobil, Chevron, Nigeria Institute of Medical Research, Access Bank, Private Sector Health Alliance, Nigerian Breweries and Dangote Foundation.

During the meeting, CAMA will launch a report on Mobilizing Nigeria’s Private Sector for Malaria Control & Elimination.

The report is the culmination of CAMA’s work in Nigeria over the past two years, during which it has established a platform for Nigerian businesses and development partners to increase the impact of private sector investments for malaria control in Nigeria.

The report includes the first-ever mapping of private sector malaria investments in Nigeria and offers suggestions for creating additional impact as the country moves toward malaria elimination.
The Corporate Alliance on Malaria in Africa (CAMA) is a GBCHealth-led initiative to drive partnerships for malaria control and elimination.
