Three para-badminton athletes and four officials on Monday departed Nigeria for the maiden International Para-Badminton Championship in Uganda.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the competition will hold from April 25 to April 30 at the Lugogo Sports Centre, Kampala.

Samuel Ekeoma, President of the Nigeria Para-Badminton Federation, told NAN in Lagos before the team’s departure that the athletes were well prepared for the championship.

Ekeoma said that the championship would serve as an eye opener for the three athletes.

“We are happy to be part of this competition. The three athletes are ready to compete creditably.

“This kind of competition is not just about winning but gaining experience that will go a long way to sharpen their skills,” Ekeoma told NAN.

He commended the states and individuals that supported the federation toward the competition.

“This trip would not have been possible without support from Kaduna and Abia governments as well as the Kalu Ulu Memorial Foundation.

One of the athlete, Bello Oyebanji, told NAN that the team would do its possible best to make Nigeria proud in the competition.

NAN reports that no fewer than 15 countries will participant in the championship.
