Nigeria’s legal sector has a new addition by way of a new firm of leading lawyers, led by Olasupo Shasore, a senior advocate and former Commissioner of Justice in Lagos state.
Olasupo Shasore is among five prominent lawyers who have left their respective law firms and started USL, which stands for Ukiri, Shasore and Lijadu, with its headquarters at 8, Kasunmu Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Shasore and two others, Ovie Ukiri and Olufemi Lijadu, recently left the law firm of Ajumogobia&Okeke, where they had been partners.
Oyinkan Badejo-Okunsanya, a former civil servant with the Lagos State Government and Folashade Alli, a principal solicitor with Vatad Solicitors, are the final two others that make up the five-person strong partnership.
Described on the company’s website as ‘Nigeria’s first truly African Law Firm’, the company also claims to have been “deliberately designed and evolved over decades of practice” and has names of all the aforementioned lawyers as partners.
USL is now undertaking the task of creating a name for itself amongst nationally and internationally distinguished firms that have been operating in the market for decades.
Amongst these are Udo Udoma & Belo Osagie (established in 1984), Jackson Etti Edu (established in 1996), AELEX (established in 2004), Aluko & Oyebode (established in 1993), Banwo & Ighodalo (established in 1991); ACAS Law (established in 1991), Templars (established in 1995), Ajumogobia & Okeke (established in 1984), as well as Olaniwun Ajayi (established in 1962).
