Dangote group has concluded plans to build over 250,000 metric tonnes capacity rice mill in the commercial city of Kano, as part the company on-going move to key into the Federal Government effort to make Nigeria self sufficient in rice production.
Similarly, the company `s said the 2.8 million tonnes per annum Fertilizer Manufacturing Plant it is construction in Lagos state which is expected to be the fertilizer plant in Sub-Saharan Africa will coming on stream next year.
Halima Dangote, who is an executive director of the company made this disclosure weekend during the ‘Dangote Day’ at the on-going 43rd Kano International Trade Fair.
She stated that the development of the two manufacturing entities is geared at supporting the move by the Federal and Kano State Governments to rejuvenate agricultural production in the country.
“It is our intention to establish a large scale Rice Mill of 250,000 tonnes per annum capacity here in Kano, to process rice production in the three states of Kano, Zamfara, and Sokoto.
“You may also be pleased to note that our Fertilizer project will be commissioned, Isha Allahi, by the end of next year and will be the largest fertilizer plant in Sub-Saharan Africa with a capacity of 2.8 million tonnes per year” she explained.
Halima assured Nigerians that Dangote Group will continue to invest in all projects that have potential to create value, jobs, and income distribution for the Nigerian nation.
“Let me assure Nigerians that despite the prevailing difficult business and economic environment that we in Dangote are not discouraged by the situation. Rather we see the situation as a challenge that we can overcome.
“Indeed we are looking beyond these challenges to the great opportunities that will unfold if we all make concerted effort and strengthen the partnership between the private and public sectors of the economy.
“In this regards, we at the Dangote Group, are deeply committed to partner with both the Federal Government and Kano State Government to explore the tremendous opportunities in Agriculture, Mining and Infrastructure.
“You are already aware of our recent re-opening of our flour Mill here in Kano and our on- going tomato processing project which would have been fully operational by now, but for tomato disease which affected production last season and some technical production problem at the factory ” she added.
Commenting on the Dangote Day, Halima thanked the leadership of the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (KACCIMA) for the opportunity provide by the day to specially showcase the various products of the company.
She commended that Chamber for sustaining the annual fair for the past 37 years, adding that the fair has brought tremendous progress to participants and exhibitors.
“We at Dangote Group are proud to have remained a major partner in this effort, indeed our participation has grown with the trade fair and we look forward to not just sustaining participation, but scaling up our presence in the years ahead” she noted.
