Android smartphones pack in a lot of hidden gestures and quick shortcuts that you might not know even if you have been using Android for quite some time. Here are ten really cool Android gestures that can speed up the way you use your device. Did you know that if you have a smartphone with an amoled panel, you can actually save battery just by changing your wall paper to a black colour, contrary to most displays, when a pixel is displayed as black on an amoled panel, the pixel itself switches of and thats partly the reason why the contrast level is so high on these display.

If you want to delete a complete sentence or a couple of words, the usual way is to keep pressing the delete button until it is clear, but there is a shortcut gesture to clear the message. All you have to do is press the delete key and drag towards left on the keyboard. It will then select the all the words at once and delete, saving you some effort.

If you’re in such a hurry to charge your smartphone, turn it on flight mode. Disabling all the phone’s communications could actually speed up the charging process by about 50 percent. You can drastically speed up your phone just by reducing the animation time. All you have to do is to go into your settings, select build version seven times and this will unlock developer options, select ‘ok’ and your phone will respond faster to commands.

Another problem most people face is how to reduce their data use. You might be using only one app but in the background you might have 20 other apps open, your mobile phone constantly checking for updates also consumes data which runs your data costs really high. if you can’t be bothered to always close apps, go to your settings and click the off on mobile data for the apps you are not using and leave on only the apps you want to use with your mobile data.

All other apps can run when your phone is connected to wifi. If you’re listening to music on your phone and it just doesn’t sound great or is not loud enough for you, putting it into an empty ceramic bowl improves the sound quality and increases the volume by about 30 percent. You can block calls and send them straight to voicemail simply by going to the contact on your phone and selecting ‘all calls to voicemail’ in the drop down menu option on the right side of the screen.

Auto correct can sometimes be annoying. You mean to say something and your smartphone changes it to something else. If you and your friends have slangs or words that you commonly use, then you can add your favourite words to the dictionary on your phone by going to settings, language and input dictionary. Add them to your dictionary and have your phone recognise it.   Did you know that you could activate split screen on most android smartphones? This is for people who like to multitask. You just have to press hold the recents button and the already opened app will minimise to half the screen and then you can open a new app in the other half of the screen.

You can zoom in with only one finger by double tapping on the image and don’t let go of the finger on the second tap, then move your finger upwards or downwards to zoom in or zoom out the image. This is a very useful tip as zooming in with pinch gesture or double tap is not very user friendly when you have only one free finger.
