The former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Amina Bala Zakari has commended the procedure which has been adopted by INEC in the on-going Edo state gubernatorial election.

Speaking to a Channels Television correspondent in Edo State, Zakari who is observing the election process said the adoption of a voting technique which allows voters to cast their ballot immediately after accreditation has made more elite come out to exercise their voting right.
“Unlike in the past when people have to come to the polling unit twice they can now come and do both their accreditation and vote immediately after,” she said.
On if the election started as at when due, she disclosed that in most polling units, the elections began by exactly 8:00 am as voters were already checking their names on the voters registers before the election even began.
“There was a minor delay at some polling units at Orhionmwon because security personnel were not on ground, but by 9:10am that was sorted and voting began immediately,” she said.
“Clearly the process is better as it reduces the time the whole process takes,” she said.
