Determined to fight all sort of crime in Enugu state particularly the recent challenges posed by Fulani Herdsmen governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has inaugurated all inclusive state security committee.

Inaugurating the state security/peace committee headed by retired brigade general Fred Eze, special Adviser to the Governor on security matters, Ugwuanyi said the committee became necessary because of the incessant disputes among communities and Fulani Herdsmen in the state.
The dispute he said has resulted in the destructions of farm lands, properties and killing and other criminal acts in the state.
The governor who said such committee would be constituted in all the 17 local governments and wards noted that the state executive council had approved the constitution of security and peace committee in the state to ensure lasting peace and harmony among various communities and herdsmen in the state.
The terms of reference are to ensure that grazing and realing of cattle at night banned in Enugu state after meeting between the governor and leaders of Fulani/ Shuwa Arab herdsmen in the state is enforced. That they should ensure that ban on carring or possession of firearms or any form of ammunition by herdsmen in the state was strictly enforced.

They should implement ban on movement of cattle from one location to another at night in the state and ensure strictly compliance by herdsmen.

Also in the terms of reference was to ensure that compensation is paid by any herdsmen whose cattle destroy farm crops and also that communities pay for any cattle killed by their members. To ensure that violeters of the resolutions by the state executive council face the full wraths of the law and also take appropriate security measures which in the opinion of the committee will bring about lasting peace and harmony among various communities and herdsmen in the state.
The committee members comprises of 20 persons from both the leaders of House Committee in Enugu, the security agents, butchers association among others while Emmanuel Mbamalu of Ministry of Local government matters serves as the secretary.
