Liverpool and Manchester City will face off at Wembley stadium this Sunday in an attempt to win the first major piece of silverware of the season.  Sunday’s trip to Wembley stadium on February 28 will be the Reds fifth visit to the stadium since it was built.

Following an average performance from the two sides, City and Liverpool are vying to win their first major piece of silverware this season.

Jurgen Klopp‘s team booked their place in their first cup final since 2012 with a penalty shoot-out victory over Stoke City at Anfield.

The last time the two sides faced each other was in November 2015, Liverpool ran out 4-1 winners at City, thanks to an Eliaquim Mangala own goal and strikes from Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Martin Skrtel secured the win for the Reds.

Coincidentally the two sides will meet twice in four days, with a Premier League clash at Anfield scheduled for Wednesday, 2nd March.

In what hopefully is an omen for the Reds, in 2012 when they beat Cardiff City in the League Cup final

With both Liverpool and City struggling to meet their targets in the Premier League, the cup final should come as a big opportunity for Jurgen Klopp and Manuel Pellegrini to claim a trophy this season.

Thing are not rosy with Manuel Pellegrini’s side since the news broke that Pep Guardiola will be taking charge at the Etihad stadium next season.

The current Premier League champions will want to end the season with silverware.

Klopp, who replaced Brendan Rodgers who was sacked by the Merseyside outfit in November, has not made the impact desired at Anfield and will be looking forward to make a statement by winning the Capital One Cup trophy this Sunday.
