Members of the United Nations (UN) security council have underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of the reprehensible acts of Boko Haram terrorists to justice.
The call for such action came following the horrific terrorist attacks of January 30, 2016 on Dalori village in north eastern Nigeria, killing at least 85 people and wounding dozens more. The attacks were widely attributed to Boko Haram terrorist insurgents.
It was the third deadly attack to hit the area in four days, after suicide bombers killed at least 24 people in two previous and separate attacks.
In a statement made available to BusinessDay by Oluseyi Soremekun, national information officer for the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Nigeria, “the UN condemned in the strongest terms the horrific terrorist attacks.”
“The members of the UN security council also expressed their deep condolences and sympathy to the families and friends of those killed and injured by these heinous acts, as well as to the people and the Government of Nigeria.”
They further stressed that those responsible for these terrorist attacks should be held accountable, and urged all states, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant security council resolutions, to cooperate actively with all relevant authorities in this regard.
