Edo State has secured a strategic partnership with United States-based investors to establish an electric mobility manufacturing and assembly plant for electric tricycles, marking another step in the state’s drive to attract industrial investments, create jobs and accelerate the transition to clean transportation.

The Edo State Commissioner for Power, Hon. Paul Usenbor, disclosed this in an interview with Business Day, stating that the project is being developed through a partnership involving United States-based MOSERI Holding Limited, JBV Manufacturing, and a tricycle manufacturing company.

He said the collaboration will establish an e-mobility manufacturing and assembly plant in Edo State to produce electric tricycles for the Nigerian market, with the aim of boosting local industrialization, creating jobs, and promoting clean transportation.

Usenbor said the investment aligns with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s economic agenda of positioning Edo as a preferred destination for manufacturing, innovation and renewable energy investments while expanding employment opportunities for residents.

According to him, local production of electric tricycles will reduce dependence on imports, strengthen technical capacity and stimulate the development of a domestic electric vehicle value chain.

He said the project is expected to make electric tricycles more affordable by lowering production costs, while creating direct and indirect employment in assembly, maintenance, after-sales services and technical support.

“The advantage of this initiative is that the cost of electric tricycles will become more affordable for our people. Beyond that, it will create direct and indirect jobs because Edo residents will be involved in the assembly process, maintenance, after-sales services and warranty support,” Usenbor said.

The commissioner noted that the investment forms part of wider reforms by the Edo State Ministry of Power to attract private capital into the energy sector and promote clean energy technologies capable of driving sustainable economic growth.

He added that the state government has continued to engage international investors across the power and renewable energy value chain, describing the e-mobility project as a significant milestone in Edo’s industrialization agenda.

Usenbor expressed confidence that the initiative would strengthen Edo’s competitiveness as an investment destination, deepen local manufacturing capacity and support the state’s long-term vision of building a diversified, innovation-driven economy.
