Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has completed a return to South African Premiership side Chippa United ahead of the 2026/27 season, as he looks to revive both his club career and hopes of reclaiming Nigeria’s No. 1 jersey.

The 30-year-old returns to the Chilli Boys after spending around seven months away from competitive football following his departure from the club in February 2026, a decision that saw him fall out of the Super Eagles setup.

Chippa United confirmed Nwabali’s return on Sunday via its official social media platforms.

“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome @nwabali32 back to the Chilli Boys,” the club posted.

In a follow-up message, the club added:

“After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club.”

Fresh start after difficult spell

Nwabali’s return offers the goalkeeper an opportunity to rebuild his career after months without first-team football.

The prolonged absence from competitive action disrupted his form and fitness, ultimately costing him his place in Nigeria’s national team despite previously establishing himself as one of the country’s most reliable goalkeepers.

Regular playing time at Chippa United is expected to strengthen his chances of earning a recall to the Super Eagles ahead of upcoming international fixtures.

AFCON hero returns to familiar surroundings

Nwabali first joined Chippa United in 2022 before earning widespread recognition for his performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
