The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has fulfilled his pledge to provide financial support to 97 inmates granted clemency on Democracy Day. Each beneficiary received ₦100,000 at the Kaduna Medium Security Custodial Centre on Friday to assist their transition back into society.

The cash distribution marks the final phase of the state’s June 12 clemency programme, which was designed to help the beneficiaries rebuild their lives through legitimate enterprise after regaining their freedom.

Correctional service commends executive intervention

Kaduna Medium Security Custodial Centre Assistant Controller Dalhat Ibrahim commended Governor Sani for the intervention, stating that the initiative would strengthen institutional efforts to reform, rehabilitate, and reintegrate former inmates.

He noted that the administration’s decision to pay the outstanding court fines that secured the inmates’ release, combined with the subsequent financial aid, would incentivise the beneficiaries to become law-abiding citizens.

Administration urges prudent investment for a fresh start

Governor Sani Protocol Senior Special Assistant Alhaji Mohammed Suleiman, who led the government delegation to the custodial centre, explained that the presentation fulfilled the constitutional prerogative of mercy exercised on June 12.

Suleiman reiterated the Governor’s appeal to the beneficiaries to maintain exemplary conduct and avoid criminal activities that could lead to recidivism. Ibrahim similarly advised the freed individuals to deploy the funds as start-up capital for productive business ventures.

Beneficiaries express gratitude for second chance

Beneficiaries expressed profound relief and appreciation for the financial lifeline. Chuks Solomon, an indigene of Ebonyi State, thanked Governor Sani for granting them a second chance, confirming that many recipients intend to use the money as capital to establish small businesses.

Another beneficiary, Abubakar Umar, described the event as one of the happiest moments of their lives and offered prayers for the progress of Kaduna State and Nigeria.
