Lagride has advanced its Drive-To-Own (DTO) scheme with the handover of vehicles to another set of drivers, as the Lagos-backed ride hailing platform seeks to expand access to car ownership, create jobs and strengthen urban mobility services.
The scheme in its second phase, deployed cars to drivers also known as captains during their graduation, held on June 16, 2026, at the Lagride Alausa Hub.
The event brought together Lagride Captains, members of the press, partners and key stakeholders, including Akin George Fashola, chief vehicle inspection officer, Lagos State; EO Jayeola, Lagos Sector public relations officer, representing Kehinde Hamzat, Lagos Sector Commander, among others.
The ceremony was marked by fanfare as Captains received car keys, air fryers, rechargeable fans, cash gifts and other appreciation items in celebration of their progress under the Drive-to-Own programme.

The Lagride Drive-To-Own scheme is a performance-led initiative that enables drivers, known as captains, to transition from rentals to ownership by consistently meeting measurable benchmarks. These include service quality, safety, compliance, ride completion rates, customer feedback, and operational discipline on the platform.
Diana Chen, chairman of Lagride, said the programme reflects the company’s vision of using mobility as a tool for empowerment, economic progress and long-term asset ownership.
Chen, who was represented by Mildred Ekanem, executive director of Lagride, said every vehicle handed over represents a Captain who can earn with confidence, serve with pride and build towards ownership.
“Lagride is powering Lagos by building one of the most structured and excellent city mobility platforms in West Africa,” Ekanem said.
As part of the company’s effort to grow the Captain community, Lagride is also running its Refer a Captain promo, which allows members of the public and existing Captains to earn N20,000 for every successful Captain referral, subject to the terms and conditions of the programme.
The referral campaign is designed to bring more qualified Captains into the Lagride ecosystem, create more earning opportunities and increase the number of professionally trained Captains on Lagos roads.
Also speaking at the event, Ifeanyi Abraham, PR director of Lagride, said the platform is focused on protecting trust, safety and brand integrity as it expands its Drive-to-Own programme.
Abraham added that the Drive-to-Own programme gives Captains a stronger reason to protect the vehicles and the platform because they are working towards long-term ownership.
“When a Captain is working towards owning the vehicle, the relationship changes. It becomes responsibility, discipline and a real path to asset ownership. That is the future Lagride is building,” he said.
The event also featured experience-sharing sessions with Lagride Captains, media interactions, vehicle handovers, the presentation of car keys, and reward moments for the graduating Captains.
Six Lagride Captains who spoke at the event said they were earning up to N1 million weekly through the platform, describing the programme as a major turning point in their income, stability and long-term plans.
According to the Captains, the programme has helped them move from daily driving to a more structured path where they can earn consistently, support their families and work towards owning the vehicles they drive.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to building a reliable, technology-driven and people-centred mobility platform that supports riders, empowers Captains and contributes to the future of organised urban transportation in Lagos.
