Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong will play a prominent role in the AFCON 2027 qualification draw scheduled to take place in Cairo, Egypt.
The ceremony, set for Tuesday, May 19, at the headquarters of the Egyptian Football Association, will officially launch the qualification campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The tournament, branded “PAMOJA”, will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
It will mark the first time three nations will co-host Africa’s biggest football competition and the first return of the finals to East Africa in 51 years.
Troost-Ekong will be joined during the draw by former African stars Max-Alain Gradel, Essam El Hadary and Tresor Mputu, who will all play ceremonial roles during the event.
The draw ceremony will begin at 15:00 local time (12:00 GMT) and will be streamed live on CAF TV.
A total of 48 African nations will participate in the qualification process, including co-hosts Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, who have already secured automatic qualification but will still be included in the draw structure.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the finals alongside the three host nations.
