Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Edo South Senatorial aspirant and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on the party’s leadership to uphold integrity, transparency and impartiality in the conduct of its forthcoming primaries, cautioning strongly against any form of candidate imposition.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ize-Iyamu emphasised that party members must be allowed to freely determine their preferred candidates without fear, coercion or intimidation. He noted that the credibility of the primary process would play a decisive role in strengthening party unity and sustaining public confidence.
“If primaries are to be conducted, they must be transparent and fair. The imposition of candidates, whether direct or subtle, undermines party unity and erodes public trust,” he stated.
The former governorship candidate further warned against undue interference in the process, stressing that attempts to influence appointees or stakeholders on whom to support run contrary to democratic principles.
“Directing appointees or stakeholders on whom to support is inconsistent with the democratic ideals upon which our party stands,” he added.
While expressing confidence in the leadership of the APC, Ize-Iyamu maintained that the party would ultimately act in the best interest of its members and the electorate. “We are confident that the leadership of our great party will do what is right. Let party members decide freely, without fear, coercion or intimidation,” he said.
Addressing speculations surrounding his political future, Ize-Iyamu firmly dismissed claims that he was considering leaving the party. He reiterated his longstanding commitment to the APC, declaring that no circumstance would compel his exit.
“I have no intention of leaving the APC, now or ever, regardless of the circumstances. No disagreement, no provocation, and no temporary setback will drive me from a house I helped to build,” he said.
The APC stalwart also reaffirmed his loyalty to the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending ongoing efforts to reposition the country’s economy and governance framework.
He equally lauded the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, for what he described as a determined push toward infrastructural development in the state, expressing optimism about the administration’s direction.
