Newly elected President and Chairman of Council of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Bature Ali Muhammad, has pledged to reposition the institution through unity, strengthened visibility, and enhanced professional standards.
Speaking during his acceptance speech at the institution’s 56th Annual General Meeting held at the Ochendu International Conference Centre on Saturday, Muhammad said his administration would focus on consolidating the gains of past leadership while addressing internal divisions that threaten the progress of the profession.
He described his emergence as the 27th President as a “rare privilege” and vowed to serve with integrity, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to advancing the objectives of the institution.
“I make a solemn pledge to work tirelessly to justify this mandate and to serve with passion, dedication, and a strong sense of duty,” he said.
Muhammad commended his predecessor, Victor Adekunle Alonge, for his leadership and contributions to the growth of the institution, noting that his administration would build on the existing foundation with “renewed energy and clarity of purpose.”
The new NIESV president highlighted the critical role of estate surveyors and valuers in national development, particularly in shaping a sustainable and resilient economy. He stressed that the profession remains central to promoting social and economic development, as well as improving human well-being.
He, however, raised concerns over what he described as growing divisions within the institution, warning that internal conflicts could undermine its collective strength.
“It pains me to see the emergence of factions and unnecessary divides that hinder our collective progress. These divisions weaken us and divert attention from our shared goals,” he said.
Muhammad called on members to embrace unity and collaboration, urging them to dismantle barriers and foster mutual respect across the institution.
“Our strength lies in our oneness as a unified force. We must build bridges of understanding and recommit ourselves to the collective success of the institution,” he added.
On strategic priorities, he noted that improving the perception and visibility of estate surveyors and valuers in Nigeria and globally would be a key focus of his administration.
He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the core values of honesty, integrity, and professionalism, describing his new role as the peak of his professional career.
