Mikel Arteta has expressed confidence in Arsenal’s ability to upset Manchester City in the Premier League title race when the top two clash on Sunday.

The Gunners hold a six-point lead heading into their visit to the Etihad Stadium, although they have played one game more than City.

Arsenal’s dip in form since losing the League Cup final to City last month has given Pep Guardiola’s side renewed hope of reeling them in, just as they did in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 title races.

“Let’s be ourselves and go for it, put everything we have on that pitch,” Arteta said.

“Have huge belief, have huge conviction and go for it because we are more than capable of doing it.”

Arsenal have managed just one win in their last five matches across all competitions, but Arteta remains focused on the bigger picture as the club targets a first league title in 22 years.

“We are exactly where we want to be, and there have been a lot of positive things,” he added.

“We are playing against an opponent that requires the best out of you. It doesn’t get much better than that.”

By contrast, Man City have found momentum with convincing victories over Liverpool and Chelsea after lifting their first silverware of the season at Wembley.

Guardiola, however, insists his side cannot afford any slip-ups in the title run-in.

“We need that pressure,” he said.

“To compete well against that team, they have to know that if we don’t win, it’s over.”
