…inaugurate Forum of former Governors
A newly formed Forum of former Governors from Nigeria’s South-East Region has declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid, citing Tinubu-led Administration’s appointments and infrastructure drive in the Region.
David Umahi, former Governor of Ebonyi State and Minister of Works, made the announcement on Tuesday in Enugu, Enugu State on behalf of the Group shortly after the inauguration of the Forum.
Umahi said the Body comprising former South-East Governors across party lines was established to support incumbent Governors in the zone and provide advisory inputs on key regional and national issues.
According to him, the Forum commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing several “sons and daughters” of the South-East into strategic positions as well as for ongoing infrastructure projects in the Region.
“The South-East Forum of Former Governors is formed today, April 7, 2026. The Body is to support our Presiding Governors and advise them on key zonal and national matters”, Umahi stated.
He noted that membership of the Forum cuts across political affiliations, emphasising unity of purpose in advancing the Region’s interests.

“We boldly say that all the governors of the South East are supporting Mr. President’s election, and we will continue to support them,” he said.
He disclosed that many former Governors were absent due to engagements, including medical trips abroad, but expressed confidence that over 90% of members would attend subsequent meetings.
