The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly rejected the interpretation of a recent Court of Appeal ruling by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing the electoral body of acting under pressure from the federal government.

This came a few hours after the Commission refused to recognise former Senate President, David Mark, and former Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, as ADC national chairman and secretary.

In a statement on Wednesday night by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party alleged that INEC’s position reflected the influence of a “government unsettled by the growing momentum of the opposition.”

The ADC further claimed that there have been sustained efforts to weaken opposition parties and push the country towards a one-party system.

The party described INEC’s interpretation as contradictory and inconsistent with both facts and reason, insisting that it would soon provide a detailed clarification of the issues raised in the commission’s statement.

“INEC’s press statement is riddled with contradictions that do not align with the facts or logic. We will make these inconsistencies clear for all Nigerians to see,” the party said.

The ADC maintained that INEC, by its actions, has effectively taken sides against the Nigerian people, warning that such a stance could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

While expressing its displeasure, the party disclosed that it is currently reviewing its options and will announce its next course of action in due course.

In the meantime, the ADC called on its members and supporters, as well as the general public, to remain calm, resolute, and law-abiding as the situation continues to unfold.

Reaffirming its confidence, the party declared that its growing support base remains a source of concern for its opponents, adding that it would not be deterred in its political engagement.

The party urged Nigerians to stay committed to democratic values and the pursuit of credible governance.
