Jonah Jang, a former Plateau state governor has reaffirmed that Raymond Dabo remains the authentic chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Jang, a leader of the party in Plateau in a statement by Clinton Garuba, his Media Consultant dismissed reports of a parallel congress held in Jos, describing it as illegal and a ploy to discredit the party.

“The attention of Senator Jonah David Jang… has been drawn to a recent kangaroo congress in Jos purportedly held by some self-seeking, power-hungry individuals in connivance with undemocratic forces outside the state,” the statement said.

“It is a well-known and established fact that, at no time, did the State Working Committee of the PDP in Plateau State have any cracks,” it added.

The statement insisted that the current State Working Committee was duly elected in a credible congress monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with the party’s constitution.

It stressed that there was no justification for organising another congress, declaring all actions from the disputed gathering null and void.

Jang also acknowledged the ongoing crisis within the party at the national level, noting that efforts were underway to resolve internal disputes and strengthen unity.

He disclosed that he and other stakeholders had been meeting in Abuja over the past two weeks, with further discussions planned to address the issues.

The statement comes after a faction reportedly aligned with Nyesom Wike conducted a separate congress in Jos and announced a new leadership.

At the congress, Peter Tongshep was elected chairman alongside 38 other executive members, with organisers claiming the exercise was peaceful and supervised by INEC.

However, the official Plateau PDP leadership had earlier rejected the exercise as false, maintaining that the Dabo-led executive elected in October 2025 remains valid until 2028.

Jang urged party members to remain steadfast and united, warning against actions that could deepen divisions, while expressing confidence that the crisis would soon be resolved.
