President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate seeking the confirmation of Zainab Marwa as a member of the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the request during plenary on Thursday, after reading the president’s correspondence to lawmakers.

In the letter, Tinubu stated that the nomination aligns with the provisions of Section 2(2) of the Niger Delta Development Commission Establishment Act.

He explained that Marwa was nominated to represent the North-East geopolitical zone on the NDDC governing board, filling a vacant position.

According to him, the vacancy arose following the resignation of Abdulrazak Namdas, the former board member representing the region.

Tinubu further disclosed that Namdas stepped down on March 30, 2026, to pursue the governorship ticket in Adamawa State.

“The Senate is invited to note that the appointment of Dr Zainab Marwa is to fill a vacuum created by the resignation of the immediate past member of the board, Honourable Namdas Abdulrazak, from the northeast zone, who resigned on the 30th day of March 2026 to contest the position of governor of Adamawa state,” the letter stated.

“On this note, it is my hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the appointment of Dr Zainab Marwa as a member of the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission to represent the northeast zone.”

Following the reading of the letter, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on NDDC for further legislative consideration.

The committee is expected to screen the nominee and submit its report to the Senate within one to two weeks.
