…meets, urges govs to do more on insecurity

President Bola Tinubu, on Sunday, met with governors to discuss the rising cases of insecurity in the country, where he also revealed that France and other countries are willing to support Nigeria with equipment and technology.

President Tinubu described insecurity as the “next phase of our major struggle”, and urged the governors to rise up and face the challenge of insecurity in the Country.

President Tinubu, who acknowledged that the Middle East crisis had led to inflation and hike and in the prices of essential commodities in the markets, charged the governors to care more for the weak and vulnerable to in their States.

The President assured the the governors that he is “making all the efforts necessary to ensure that that Nigeria succeed in the war against insecurity

“But it is us that will collectively share the joy and be proud of the victory over tyranny”, he noted.

The Country was recently reported to have jumped to the fourth position on the global terrorism index by the just-released Global Terrorism Index 2026 by the Institute for Economics and Peace.

The report had indicated that the country moved to fourth place, behind Pakistan, Burkina Faso and Niger Republic

Nigeria in recent times has seen increased number of terrorism, banditry and kidnapping cases across the country, with several top military officers killed in the process

The report also indicated that while global terrorism fell by about 28%, the lowest since 2007, Nigeria recorded more fatalities from terrorism under the period

The report also identifies a shift in how individuals become radicalised, noting that ” it is becoming faster, more decentralized, and increasingly tied to online environments. Lone-wolf attacks, particularly among youth, have become a major concern.

The report also revealed that the ” Islamic State (IS) and its affiliates remained the deadliest terrorist organization globally in 2025, responsible for nearly 17% of all attacks”
President Tinubu while encouraging the Governors to do more, noted that ” Insecurity is an enemy of development, progress and prosperity. I am glad that you are all mindful of the challenges

” To me, I can commit myself to further strengthening my contacts and the network that is necessary.

” One of the major discussions we arrived at in the UK, is the need for equipments and so forth.

” I can report to you that just yesterday again, I had a lengthy discussions with Emmanuel Macron, they said they would be collaborating with us, for equipment and technology supports.

He also assured that he is making “frantic efforts to contact other nations, adding that ” If we have to spend our goodwill and line of credit, we have those who are willing to support us with equipment and training”

“We should just resolve to end terrorism. We have a pyramid that we must work on in the states. I will not single out any state that has done a number of things. But you are all doing well, but you can do better”, he added.

He challenged the governors to do more by caring for the vulnerable

” I know that this Middle east crisis will elicit inflation, affect our purchasing power, while the labour unions and others will be asking us to support because of the effect of the Middle East war and crisis, which has resulted in high transportation problem and high prices”, the President observed.
