Alex Otti, governor of Abia State, has ordered survey of the lands where offices of the Nigeria Postal Services (NIPOST) are situated across Abia State and handed back to NIPOST to avert unnecessary encroachments.

Governor Otti gave the directives while responding to requests made by WInifred Amadi, postal manager, Abia State, Nigeria Postal Services, who called on him on him in his office.
Tlhe governor further directed the immediate intervention of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on the alleged encroachment on the post office land located at Item in Bende LGA.

The governor noted that such encroachment is illegal and should not be allowed.

“I also have noted your experiences at Item. Please, can you (Transport Commissioner) communicate to him (Local Government Commissioner).

First of all, the Item encroachment, I need it to be solved immediately together with the other local governments,”Otti stated.

The governor accepted to collaborate with NIPOST and called on it to make its services a profitable venture.

“I am happy that you want to collaborate with the government and we would also like to collaborate with you. Whether it is federal or state, it is the same government. So, if the private sector can do it and do it profitably and efficiently, the public sector can even do it better once there is vision and we have people who are willing to deliver on it,” Otti said.

The governor also directed that the postal manager should let the state government know where their offices are located across the state.

Otti commended her vision for the postal services in Abia State and assured her that the state government will do everything possible to make her stay comfortable and support her to continue to render service to the people.Amadi, earlier in her speech, requested that the governor uses his good office to stop those who are encroaching on their lands where NIPOST offices are located, pointing out an experience noticed recently in Item, Bende LGA, where their staff were chased out by individuals who are encroaching on their land.

Amadi said that she was recently transferred to Abia State and deemed it fit to come to familiarize herself with the governor and seek collaborations with the state.

She noted that NIPOST in Abia is open for collaboration with the governor and government in certain areas, including, the designation of NIPOST Express Mail Service (EMS) as the official logistics courier for government correspondence, parcels, and merchandise, as well as the introduction of a commemorative postal stamp to showcase Abia’s rich cultural heritage on a global stage among others.

She commended Governor Alex Otti for his giant developmental strides and good governance in Abia State, adding that the governor’s popularity is felt beyond the state.
