Britain says Iran has fired several missiles at the UK-US military base in Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

The Iranian missile attack is a fresh escalation of the war against Iran by Israel and the United States.

U.K. officials have not given details of the attempted strike on the U.K.-U.S. airbase on the island in the Indian Ocean, which was unsuccessful.

It’s unclear how close the missiles came to the base, which is about 2,500 miles (4,000 kilometers) from Iran.

The U.K. Ministry of Defense said on Saturday that Iran’s “lashing out across the region and holding hostage the Strait of Hormuz, are a threat to British interests and British allies.”

In Israel sirens sound Saturday morning as the military says it is responding to a missile attack from Iran.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Saturday the intensity of attacks by Israel’s army and the U.S. military will greatly increase.

Katz said in a video statement that the country would continue targeting senior figures within Iran until all security threats against Israel and U.S. interests were removed.

The Defense Ministry of the United Arab Emirates said on Saturday that it responded to three ballistic missile and eight drone attacks.

And Iraq says an attack on its Baghdad headquarters has killed an officer. Iraq’s National Intelligence Service described Saturday’s strike as a “terrorist attack” and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
