Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and recovered 510 blocks of cannabis in Kano as part of intensified operations ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
The arrest was carried out by the agency’s Kano Strategic Command following an intelligence-driven operation conducted on March 10, 2026.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the State Commander of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, DY Lawal, said the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Sani Musa from Bebeji Local Government Area, was apprehended by operatives in possession of the illicit drugs.
According to the statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, a total of 510 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa were recovered from the suspect’s residence during the operation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Musa allegedly received the consignment from a suspected drug dealer identified as “Alaramma,” who reportedly delivered the drugs to him for safekeeping and distribution.
The suspect reportedly confessed that he had been authorised to sell the drugs, which were intended for circulation during the Sallah period when demand for illicit substances often rises.
“Mr. Musa’s statements indicate he had full knowledge of the illicit substance and participated in the drug trade,” Lawal said, adding that efforts were underway to track down the fleeing accomplice.
The NDLEA commander assured residents that the agency would sustain enforcement operations across the state, particularly during festive periods when drug-related activities tend to increase.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to NDLEA offices, while also warning individuals against engaging in illicit drug trafficking.
Lawal further encouraged residents to embrace lawful means of livelihood and celebrate the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr responsibly.
