Nyesom Wike, a longstanding Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and strong political ally of President Bola Tinubu is expected to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after the 2027 Presidential Election, BusinessDay’s investigation has revealed.

Sources close to the Presidency told BusinessDay that Wike, the Minister of FCT, is a mole assigned to destabilise the opposition parties, particularly the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“Though he is currently in PDP, he has been giving both the executive and legal protection to destabilise the opposition party and he will join his sponsors after 2027 Presidential election.

“He is currently and publicly rooting for President Tinubu’s bid for re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite being a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“He has been working with Tinubu since when he was the Rivers State governor based on shared political ideology and strategy.

“In a build up for 2019 Presidential Election, Wike made efforts to secure Tinubu membership into PDP after meeting with a former Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the then Sokoto Governor, Aminu Tambuwal in Paris between 2017 and 2018. He was sent to the Bourdillon to persuade Tinubu to join the PDP and work against Buhari. Tinubu turned down the offer in 2019.

“Wike did not make a mistake in 2023 after PDP Presidential fallout. He did not miscalculate. He did not betray anyone. He stood where courage demanded he stands. When others trembled before party pressure and mob sentiment, he chose strategy, strength, and national stability. His support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not an act of convenience—it was an act of conviction”, the source told BusinessDay.

Tinubu made Wike FCT Minister after the Rivers’ politician helped him to victory in the 2023 Presidential election.

As 2027 is gearing up, Wike insists that the PDP has not learnt from its past mistakes, confirming that he will back Tinubu again, just as he did in the 2023 Presidential Poll.

Wike, who was part of the G5 Group that opposed the PDP’s Presidential Candidacy zoning arrangement to the North in 2023. He was the first PDP man to publicly disagree with the zoning arrangement. He recently supported All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the 2026 FCT Council Elections.

However, the APC has maintained that Wike is not a member of the party, despite his open support. APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, reiterates that Wike’s political status remains unchanged, even while acknowledging his role in the FCT election outcome.

He said clearly: “what was right in 2023 will be right again in 2027. If President Tinubu chooses to seek a second term within the sacred bounds of our Constitution, no volume of angry press conferences, no alliance of serial contenders, and no recycled coalition of convenience will intimidate us into silence. Democracy is not a playground for sore losers. It is a battlefield of ideas—and on that battlefield, the people decide.”

The minister stated this recently in Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State, while inauguration Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors Headquarters, housing Majority FM 89.5, situation room, office facilities, as well as buses for the office.

“I have said before that Rivers State is a no go area, and I want to say again that this State is totally for Tinubu. We have made sure that all the 23 local governments and zonal coordinators were inaugurated, that day Nigerians all over the world watched that Rivers State is a no go area.

“I challenge anybody, let them come to Rivers State and learn, our commitment is not by mouth, our commitment is not by newspaper, ours is by showing, that yes indeed, we are working for the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“In 2023, we came out without anybody pressuring us, without anybody influencing us, we took a decision, to the glory of God that decision is what we are enjoying today, and whether anybody likes it or not, 2027 when the President has shown interest that he will run, we have no choice than to continue to support Mr President.

“Come 2027, if President Tinubu stands, we will stand. If he contests, we will organise. If he is challenged, we will respond—not with insults, but with structure, strategy, and strength.

Nigeria belongs to those who build, not those who brood. To those who act, not those who agitate endlessly. To those who fight for stability, not those who profit from instability”, Wike added.

Nyesom Wike has maintained legal protections against expulsion from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), with courts repeatedly extending orders restraining the party from suspending or expelling him.

Recalled, that Justice John Kayode Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has consistently renewed Orders, restraining the PDP and its leadership from taking steps to suspend or expel Wike.

The Order was renewed during the hearing of the Suit (FHC/ABJ/CS/139/2023) filed by Wike, which challenges the PDP’s alleged threats to expel him, maintaining that any such move must follow due process.

Despite the disciplinary Committee set up by the PDP to review allegations of anti-party activities—specifically his role as FCT Minister in President Tinubu’s APC Government—Wike has publicly insisted he is a member of the PDP and has not left the party.

The Court has ruled that any disciplinary action against Wike without a fair hearing would be deemed void.

While various factions within the PDP have called for his expulsion due to his close ties with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the Court Orders have acted as a shield for him, preventing official disciplinary actions up to the point of these reports.

Recalled that during Wike’s birthday President Bola Tinubu acknowledged him as “one of his shining stars of his Cabinet”. President Tinubu described Wike as ‘exceptional performer, a bold achiever at 58.
