The All Progressives Congress (APC) Benue State on Wednesday commenced its wards congress across the 276 council wards in the state.
Auwalu Ishiye, chairman of the wards and local governments committee, Benue State, who flagged off the distribution of election materials across the 23 local governments of the state, said as the chairman of the committee, they are poised to conduct transparent and fair ward congresses in Benue, knowing fully well that Benue is a peaceful state when it comes to elections, and today will not be different.
“I want to assure the people of the state that everything we are doing here will be peaceful and orderly; we will not go out of the constitution in the conduct of this exercise,” he said.

The State Organising Secretary, James Ornguga, explained that the party received four different committees from the national secretariat, including the screening/appeal committee, wards/LG government committee, and the appeal committee, to oversee the conduct of the congresses.
According to him, “We received the national electoral committee from our national secretariat who are in the state to conduct the ward/local government congresses. They did a documentary screening, looking at the nomination/expression of interest forms that the various aspirants submitted to the party, and certified that Benue State is ready for the exercise.”
Ornguga said 27 EXCO members will be elected from the 276 council wards, alongside 10 delegates, five as LG delegates and the other five for the state.

The party has three major processes for electing people into various positions: direct process, where people line up behind their chosen candidates; indirect process, where candidates are subjected to voting; and consensus, where everybody steps down for one candidate.
Benjamin Omale, the state APC chairman, appealed to party faithful to conduct themselves orderly and peacefully to elect leaders of their choice, adding that the era of imposing candidates on the people is over in Benue.
