While veteran quarterback Sam Darnold capped a remarkable career turnaround with a composed performance, throwing for a touchdown and nearly 200 yards, the event held special significance for the Nigerian community due to the heavy representation of its diaspora among the standout performers.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, hailed the players for bringing “pride and honour” to their country of descent.

The President congratulated Jalen Oluwaseun Milroe, Nick Emmanwori, Uchenna Nwosu, Boye Mafe, and Olu Oluwatimi, noting that each played key roles in the Seahawks’ title-winning campaign.

He described Emmanwori as a defensive standout, Nwosu as a seasoned linebacker, Mafe as a key defensive presence, and Oluwatimi as an “irrepressible offensive lineman.”

“These players and their accomplishments affirm Nigerians’ global reputation for excellence and talent,” Tinubu said, commending them for the “pride and honour that they have brought to their country of descent.”

According to the statement, Tinubu particularly commended Emmanwori, Nwosu, and Mafe for raising Nigeria’s flag following the Super Bowl triumph.

“I congratulate them on this remarkable achievement,” the statement quoted Tinubu as saying. He wished all the athletes “continued success and more victories in their respective careers.”

Tinubu remarked that the accomplishments of these players “affirm Nigerians’ global reputation for excellence and talent,” adding that their success reflects the profound impact Nigerians continue to make at the highest levels of international sport and industry.
