‘Somewhere Near Love’ explores grief in Lagos

Somewhere Near Love (SNL), a Lagos-set film centred on love and grief, completed filming in January. The project stars Scarlet Gomez, Tomi Ojo, Shamz Garuba and Bimbo Akintola, bringing together younger actors and established names within the industry.

Set in Lagos, the film follows young adults dealing with loss, substance use and emotional distance. Their stories unfold across the city as they attempt to form and maintain relationships while carrying personal grief. Rather than offering clear resolutions, the film focuses on how its characters continue living through uncertainty.

The cast also includes Bimbo Manuel, Iremide Adeoye, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Mallum Arik, Victory Adeoeye, Raymond Umenze, Gbemi Akinlade, Fisayo Fosudo and Seyi Ademeso.

Speaking on the project, executive producer Gafar Gbolahan said, “ This project is very different from anything we’ve done before. It’s bold, emotionally resonant, and intentionally crafted to meet a global audience while staying deeply rooted in a Nigerian story. I’m excited for audiences to finally see it”.

Produced by Blaiton Production, Somewhere Near Love is directed by Gbolahan Gafar, with cinematography by Lucas Oluwole. The film is produced by Olayemi Oshodi and Bolanle Onifade, while executive producers include Gbolahan Gafar, Fisayo Fosudo, Moyin Osho and Faruk Sanni.

Developed by a team focused on stories about young people, the film avoids conventional romantic structures and instead follows characters as they navigate daily life and emotional strain.
