The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 has set a new benchmark for global digital engagement, recording more than 6 billion views across social media platforms, according to figures released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
CAF confirmed that AFCON Morocco 2025 generated an extraordinary 5.2 billion video views, making it the most-viewed continental football competition in history.

The tournament also attracted 8.5 million new followers, underlining its status as the most digitally engaged continental championship ever staged.
In total, 285 million engagements were recorded during the competition, reflecting unprecedented fan interaction and emotional investment. CAF said the numbers highlight the growing global influence of African football and the passion of its supporters.

TikTok drives unprecedented fan engagement
TikTok emerged as the dominant platform during the tournament, with more than one million fan-generated videos created under the official #TotalEnergiesAFCON2025 hashtag. Fans used the platform to share goal celebrations, tactical analysis, humour, music and fashion inspired by the competition.
“TikTok became the beating heart of the tournament’s digital ecosystem,” CAF stated. “It turned the competition into a cultural movement that went far beyond the pitch.”
CAF noted that the explosion of short-form content helped introduce AFCON to younger and new global audiences, breaking traditional barriers between players, teams and supporters.
Diaspora fuels global growth
CAF also highlighted significant growth within the African diaspora, with millions of new users engaging with tournament content across borders, languages and cultures at unprecedented speed.
“The milestone positions Africa’s flagship football event at the very top of global digital engagement, surpassing every comparable continental tournament in history,” CAF said in its official report.
From dramatic match moments and breathtaking goals to behind-the-scenes access and real-time fan reactions, AFCON 2025 content travelled worldwide, reinforcing the competition’s status as a truly global spectacle.
