Ethan Nwaneri marked his Marseille debut in style, scoring just 13 minutes after kick-off to help his new club secure a 3–1 result over Lens in a Ligue 1 fixture on Saturday.

Amine Gouiri’s deflected strike handed Marseille an early lead at the Stade Vélodrome before the 18-year-old loanee from Arsenal quickly doubled the advantage.

The England Under-21 international scored the second goal for the home side. Gouiri added his second goal of the night in the 75th minute to effectively seal the win, tapping in a cross from Timothy Weah.

Lens later pulled one back through substitute Rayan Fofana, but it proved little more than a consolation.

Nwaneri joined Marseille on loan until the end of the season on January 23 after finding first-team opportunities limited at Premier League leaders Arsenal.

The teenager enjoyed a breakthrough 2024/25 campaign with the Gunners, scoring nine goals and earning a new five-year contract.
