oil-subsidyThe Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) on Wednesday says it will ensure that petroleum products are available at filling stations across the country during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, NUPENG’s South-West Chapter Chairman, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) unit of the union would work throughout the holidays.

The Federal Government has declared Thursday and Friday as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Korodo said that to ensure a hitch-free supply of petroleum products it would engage the Christian tanker drivers to work during the festival.

“While the Muslim tanker drivers will be celebrating with their families, their Christian counterparts will ensure regular supply to the filling stations.

“It is our responsibility to ensure that petroleum products get to filling stations and we have been assured by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) that the products will be available at depots.

“The present administration is working to ensure that all our refineries are working at 100 per cent capacity.

“We will play our part by getting the products to the filling stations during this period,’’ the NUPENG chairman said.

He, however, warned against panic buying, saying that there would be enough petroleum products for sale to the general public during the period.
