No party in Rivers for now, we’re united behind Tinubu’s re-election – Wike

Nyesom Wike has said all political parties in Rivers State have effectively merged into a single coalition backing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Wike made the claim on Wednesday while addressing stakeholders in Asari-Toru Local Government Area, saying partisan divisions in the state had given way to a broad political alliance he described as a “rainbow coalition” under the banner of the president’s Renewed Hope agenda.

“In Rivers, we don’t have any party now,” Wike told the gathering. “What we have is the Renewed Hope family. It’s a rainbow coalition.”

The former Rivers governor said the arrangement marked a departure from traditional party politics, replacing it with what he described as a collective movement aimed at securing political power and benefits for the state.

“If you don’t belong to this family, then forget it,” he said. “After delivering President Tinubu, this family will produce everything as far as the state is concerned — governorship and assembly seats.”

Wike said Rivers residents were already seeing the rewards of backing Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election and promised improved outcomes in the coming year. He thanked community leaders and residents for what he described as their loyalty, calling their earlier support a risk that was now paying off.

“This year will be better than last year,” he said, urging them to remain committed. “Continue on this track, and you will continue to reap good results.”

Since beginning a tour of local government areas in Rivers last month, Wike has repeatedly criticised the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of failing to honour a political agreement reached before Tinubu lifted emergency rule in the state.
