2026 World Cup: List of 18 countries qualified for expanded football tournament

The race to the 2026 FIFA World Cup is intensifying with less than a year to go before the kickoff. So far, 18 countries have already qualified for the expanded tournament.

The tournament, which runs from June 11 to July 19, 2026, will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It will be the biggest World Cup yet, featuring 48 teams, an increase from the 32 that competed at Qatar 2022.

Qualification slots have been distributed as follows: UEFA (Europe) –16, CAF (Africa) – 9, AFC (Asia) – 8, CONMEBOL (South America) – minimum 6, CONCACAF (North/Central America and Caribbean) – minimum 6, and OFC (Oceania) – 1 guaranteed spot for the first time. The final two berths will be decided through a six-team inter-confederation playoff in March 2026.

So far, 18 of the 48 slots have been filled, with the three automatic host nations joined by 15 other qualifiers from across Asia, Africa, South America, and Oceania.
