NDLEA destroys 28,959kg cannabis in Edo, Ekiti forests

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has clarified its recent stop-and-search operation in Admiralty Way, Lekki, Lagos, brought to the agency’s attention by popular comedian Bright Okpocha, also known as Basketmouth.

In response to Basketmouth’s inquiry, the NDLEA confirmed that the operation was authorized and conducted based on intelligence, emphasizing that such targeted stop-and-search exercises are not a regular occurrence.

The agency explained that the operation was part of its ongoing efforts to protect residents from drug-related activities and disrupt the supply chain of illicit substances in the area.

Under the leadership of its Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd.), the NDLEA has intensified its efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse in Nigeria. Intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations have become a crucial component of the agency’s strategy to disrupt illicit drug networks.

In October, Marwa appealed to Nigerians to assist the agency by reporting suspected drug trafficking activities in their communities. He emphasized the collective responsibility to safeguard the nation from the harmful effects of illicit drugs.

The NDLEA’s actions reflect its commitment to protecting the well-being of Nigerians and safeguarding the country from the detrimental impact of drug trafficking and substance abuse. The agency’s collaboration with the public is essential to achieving its objectives and ensuring the safety of communities nationwide.
