Jonathan Johnson, the new Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 6, has said the withdrawal of police aides of some political office holders by Mbu Joseph Mbu, Rivers Commissioner of Police (CP), is in order.

Johnson, who arrived Rivers State on Wednesday, said his visit was to familiarise himself with the command, pay courtesy visit to the governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, and speak with Mbu and other policemen.

The AIG, who fielded questions from journalists on Mbu’s withdrawal of police details to prominent personalities in the state, said, “It is very proper; the action of the CP is in order”.

He stated that the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) of the Nigerian police is not meant to guard individuals or other bodies because members of the CTU are specially trained. According to him, the special protection unit (SPU) is responsible for guarding individuals or corporate bodies and members of this squad are trained for that.

“They are responsible to guard all the dignitaries that will apply. We do not go on knocking at people’s houses to apply; if you like and can afford it we give them to you for your protection”
