British-Nigerian MP, Kate Osamor suspended in the UK over remarks on Israel’s attacks

Who is Kate Osamor, the suspended British-Nigerian UK minister?

Kate Osamor, a British-Nigerian Minister in the UK parliament has been suspended with immediate effect after accusing Israel of genocide on the eve of Memorial Day.

Her suspension was confirmed to MailOnline Sunday evening. A source told the news platform that the Chief Whip has suspended Osamor from the Parliamentary Labour Party pending an investigation.

This comes after Osamor published in her newsletter that Gaza, a Palestinian city should be on the list of genocides.

The Labour MP for Edmonton posted a photo of herself signing the Holocaust Education Trust’s commemoration book in Westminster on X, where she wrote:

“Tomorrow is Holocaust Memorial Day, an international day to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, the millions of other people murdered under Nazi persecution of other groups and more recent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and now Gaza.”

The statement was not received lightly by the Board of Deputies, the Jewish Labour Movement, and the Holocaust Educational Trust, who responded to the controversy with a suspension of Osamor pending an investigation.

Osamor has since posted an apology on X for her remarks, received with mixed reactions from concerned parties. She wrote:

“Holocaust Memorial Day is a day to remember the 6 million Jews killed in the Holocaust and the genocides that have occurred since.

I apologise for any offence caused by my reference to the ongoing humanitarian disaster in Gaza as part of that period of remembrance.”
