In a series of overnight airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, the Hamas government reported a death toll of at least 55 individuals on Sunday.

Israel had earlier announced an escalation in its air attacks in response to the ongoing conflict, particularly the Hamas attacks on October 7.

The government’s press office released a statement confirming ‘More than 55 martyrs’ and noted the destruction of over 30 homes shortly after an Israeli military spokesperson disclosed plans for increased raids.

According to the Hamas government, more than 4,300 individuals, primarily civilians, have lost their lives in Israeli airstrikes since the outbreak of the conflict.

On the other side, Israel, having suffered its most devastating attacks with 1,400 casualties, primarily civilians, has now mobilized a significant number of troops around Gaza, anticipating a ground invasion. The Israeli military claims to have eliminated several key Hamas leaders and military commanders through daily airstrikes.

Late on Saturday, an Israeli military spokesperson announced an intensification of the attacks, emphasizing their efforts to minimize civilian risks and urging Gaza City residents to relocate to safer areas to protect themselves. Israel has repeatedly urged the approximately 1.1 million people living in the northern parts of Gaza to move south in anticipation of a potential ground operation.

The Hamas government also voiced its concern regarding the insufficient aid reaching Gaza despite the arrival of 20 trucks on Saturday.

They reported that 1.4 million people in Gaza are now displaced and called upon the international community to pressure the Israeli government to allow the entry of thousands of additional aid trucks
