Maureen Onyekachukwu Ekwunife, a widow and resident of Onitsha, Anambra State, who won one-million naira in the ongoing Diamond Bank plc, monthly Savings Extra Promo, has been rewarded by the bank.
The promo, which is part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme of the bank, was instituted to reward loyal customers and also to encourage the habit of saving amongst Nigerians, says Iheanyi Nwanosike, area manager, Diamond Bank plc.
Nwanosike, while presenting the cheque to the winner, in Onitsha, reaffirmed that the programme, which aims at giving back to the society.
To qualify for the promo, which is open to both new and existing customers, Nwanosike explained that new customers are expected to open a DiamondXtra savings account and deposit 5,000 Naira, which could be done by walking into any Diamond Bank branch.
He however stated that a customer may be required to provide an identification card (ID card), two passport photographs and proof of address.
But for existing customers, he explained that they would simply maintain a minimum balance of N5,000 to qualify for the promo, noting that every additional N5,000 in customers account increases his/her chances of winning.
According to him, “This programme is real. This is the 8th edition of the annual programme, a social responsibility scheme, from Diamond Bank to reward our customers, who have found us worthy among other banks in Nigeria”.
The recipient, Maureen Ekwunife, a widow, who lost her husband, last year, expressed joy at the development, saying that she never, anticipated the windfall that came less than one-month after she opened an account with Diamond Bank.
Amid an ecstatic smile, she lauded Diamond Bank plc, for the gesture. “I thank the management of Diamond Bank Plc. I was very happy the day I was informed that I won the promo. This is just like a miracle, because I’ve never been this lucky before.
“Since the day I was announced the winner, many of my friends have opened accounts with Diamond Bank. It’s really a remarkable day in my life”.
The presentation of the cheque to the winner, was done at the premises of Eastern Distilleries and Food Industries Limited, a foremost manufacturer of alcoholic beverages in Onitsha, where the husband of the winner, was a top manager before his demise.
